US Planes Cleaners Strike on Ebola – 10/12/2014

For Your Entertainment (FYE),sort of, unless you got Ebola……:+(

All eyes are on the Hong Kong Students “Pro-Democracy” Strike…….

However, much more significant moves are the:

“Airline cabin cleaners walk off jobs over Ebola fears at New York airport

Striking workers protest lack of durable gloves and face masks for job that entails ‘contact with a lot of faeces and vomit’”

and the:

“Madrid hospital staff quit over Ebola fears

Carlos III hospital treating virus-hit nurse Teresa Romero Ramos suffers staff shortage amid concerns over training and safety…..”
No “quarantine” and no “Ebola prophylaxis training” ???
We have “prophylaxis” procedures for HIV/AIDS that may kill you in fifteen (15) years, but very little is in place for an hemorrhagic fever that kills in a month (21 days to be exact)…….:+(
“Currently, no specific therapy is available that has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of Ebola hemorrhagic fever. Surgical intervention generally follows a mistaken diagnosis in which Ebola-associated abdominal signs are mistaken for a surgical abdominal emergency. Such a mistake may be fatal for the patient and for any surgical team members who become contaminated with the patient’s blood. There are no commercially available Ebola vaccines. ”

“Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) is a rare human disease caused by Ebola Virus (EBOV), a filamentous single-stranded, negative-sense RNA virus. Since 1976 several Ebolavirus outbreaks have occurred with fatality rates ranging from 57% to 90%, with most of these outbreaks traced to single EBOV species; EBOV-Z. No effective therapy is currently available for Ebolavirus.”

Here goes our “hubris” again and/or our stupid incompetence for reason of “political correctness”(PC) …:+(
“A quarantine is used to separate and restrict the movement of persons; it is a ‘state of enforced isolation’. This is often used in connection to disease and illness, such as those who may possibly have been exposed to a communicable disease. The term is often erroneously used synonymously with the medical version of the termisolation, which is “to separate ill persons who have a communicable disease from those who are healthy.” The word comes from the Italian (seventeenth-century Venetian) quaranta, meaning forty, which is the number of days ships were required to be isolated before passengers and crew could go ashore during the Black Death plague epidemic. Quarantine can be applied to humans, but also to animals of various kinds, and both as part of border control as well as within a country.”
“The purpose of such quarantine-for-decontamination is to prevent the spread of contamination, and to contain the contamination such that others are not put at risk from a person fleeing a scene where contamination is suspect. It can also be used to limit exposure, as well as eliminate a vector.”

“The first astronauts to visit the Moon were quarantined upon their return at the specially built Lunar Receiving Laboratory.”

“New developments for quarantine include new concepts in quarantine vehicles such as the Ambulance bus, mobile hospitals, and lockdown/invacuation (inverse evacuation) procedures, as well as docking stations for an ambulance bus to dock to a facility that’s under lockdown.”

“The February/March 2003 issue of HazMat Magazine suggests that people be “locked in a room until proper decon could be performed”……

Instead, in our “PC””wisdom”, they travel globally and we are “surprised” Ebola is “spreading”…….:+(

Ebola is spreading, but, certainly, much slower and in a much more limited way, without human stupidity help for reason of “political correctness (PC)”…..:+(
